Diy Wall Art Your Toddler Can Do! (and mine did)

Recently as I was putting our dining room together I realized I needed a large piece of artwork to take up a large amount of wall space and anchor our large sideboard. I didn’t want to spend a lot and since I love diy artwork projects, I was determined to make something to fit this space!

I thought it would be fun to include my toddler because he loves seeing his artwork displayed throughout the house!

I grabbed 8 gold frames from the dollar store

I used blush craft paint to paint all the included matts pink.

Next I grabbed about eight pages of white card stock and gave my son a few different shades of pink acrylic paint to paint with. At the time he loved to paint faces so I painted him a few circles so he could do the rest of the face.

My son is young so his faces came out super abstract which I love !

This was such a fun project to do together and my son still loves seeing his creations all framed up and displayed!

In fact we had so much fun we’ve done it a few more times using the same concept of giving him paint colors that fit with our decor and framing it.

For this one I just gave him a pretty teal paint and a poster board and let him do his thing!

I also have some of his artwork displayed on our mantle too.

Of course I let him paint with whatever colors he wants normally and display his other pieces of art too, these are just ones that are used as regular decor in our home!

Tips for Making This Work :

Use Acrylic Craft Paint

The end result will be much more high quality than a regular kids paint. Of course just be careful because it’s not washable.

Use Cardstock Instead of Thin Paper

Again, the end result will be much more quality!

Pick Colors that Coordinate with Your Decor AND Mix Well Together

Let’s be honest, a lot of times when our kids start mixing colors it can end up being a lot of brown! I love when my son mixes colors and seeing what he comes up with but for the sake of this project I wanted certain colors so didn’t give him colors that would mix to a not so appealing color.

We absolutely love arts and crafts in our house and LOVED doing these projects together. My son loves seeing his creations displayed which is the best part.

DIY marble painted countertops

I am so so excited to show you all my freshly painted faux marble countertops using the Giani inc marble countertop paint kit.

Let’s start with a before of the kitchen :

The space really wasn’t the WORST but man did it need some brightening up!

We recently painted the cabinets, added hardware, and installed peel and stick backsplash which made a huge difference! The countertops and faucet were such an eye sore though! I can live with the faucet until we’re ready for more major renovations but the countertops were just bad. They were chipped and stained and just not looking good!

I tried a few different contact papers but couldn’t seem to get past the seems! I hated the way the seems looked and they seemed impossible to hide in our kitchen.

I randomly searched “countertop paint” one day and found the Giani countertop paint and knew it was the perfect solution!

The kit arrived quickly and was packaged very well.

The kit included everything you need for this diy. The only additional things I needed were a scouting pad and a small paint tray.

The process was incredibly simple and I highly suggest following Giani’s instructions as best as you can! I will still go over the process here though so you can get an idea of how it all works!

Step 1 : Clean and scour your countertops scouring the countertops roughs them up enough for the primer to stick well.

Step 2 : Priming is the second step. You basically prime the outer edges of the countertop with a foam brush and then use the included roller to roll on the rest of the primer. Let dry for at least 4 hrs and apply a second coat. Giani recommends two coats and that was plenty for me! The paint covered beautifully!

Step 3 : Next it was time to paint on the “veins.” This is the part I was most nervous about but it was SO SO easy! You basically just very lightly draw a line with an open palm. After your line is painted you spray the line with water and use the included brush to dab and feather out the line giving it that marble veining look.

Giani suggests practicing before hand and using a picture of marble you like as a guide.

The best part is it you don’t like the way it looks it’s just paint and you can paint over it and start over! I did make a couple lines I didn’t like but caught it quickly and just wiped it away with a wet cloth.

Step 4 : The white highlight was my favorite part. The white highlight is essentially a shimmery white paint that adds more definition to your veining. I did a lot of highlight because I wanted a super blurred almost all white look. The kit comes with a sponge to dab the highlight on with.

Step 5 : The last step is to apply 2 coats of top coat the same exact way you do the primer.

I am so in love with the final result! I get so happy when I walk into the kitchen and see the way the countertops just brighten the kitchen right up! My husband is still shocked at how real they look too!

They have also held up beautifully and we have had zero issues with chipping, staining, peeling etc. which is huge! If something looks beautiful but doesn’t function correctly it’s really not worth the trade off!

I am so glad I tried this product! All of the products included in the kit were high quality and worked so well together. The final look is so real and brightens up our kitchen so much! Giani was also an absolute pleasure to deal with as well which is huge in my book! I am definitely looking forward to trying out some more of their products, including this furniture paint!

You can find the kit here on Giani inc’s website for 89.95 which I think is an amazing price for the amount of product in the kit and the amazing results!

This post was sponsored by Giani inc. all thoughts and opinions are my own!

Spring Home Tour

I’m so so excited to be a part of this years spring home tour! I’m sure your already feeling inspired after Rachel’s home tour!

We may still have snow on the ground and cold weather but I can hear the birds chirping and see my seedlings growing which gives me hope spring is almost here!

This diy spring floral wreath will be on our door this spring when the weather warms up a bit! This was a super simple diy and you can find the full tutorial at

One of the best parts of the weather getting warm is it makes it so much easier to get house projects done! We’re still working on most parts of our home but I’m taking full advantage of the spaces that are done enough to decorate for spring, starting with our kitchen!

The kitchen is still a work in progress but we are slowly tackling it and have painted the cabinets, painted the countertops and updated the hardware so far! We are planning a larger renovation in the next couple of years but I’m loving the small diy updates we’ve done to get us through until then!

Our countertops are ready for spring with lots of pink touches.

These built ins are one of my favorite spots in our home and they are so fun to decorate for all the seasons! I like to keep it simple and subtle with colors and patterns that represent spring.

Pops of blush are pretty much always incorporated into our home but they definitely get upped during this time of year! I love these thrifted books covered in vintage floral fabric. The patterns are perfect for spring.

Blue and white pottery is also a staple in our home and nothing says spring to me like peonies in a blue and white vase!

Our little kitchen eating nook got updated with new paint for the chairs and new pillow covers!

And of course what is more spring than tulips?!

This little dollar store caddy painted cornflower blue is the perfect place to store all of our seeds and will make a great window herb garden this summer!

It may not be decor per say but one of my favorite things to see in the spring is all of my son and I’s seedlings growing. He loves checking on his plants every morning!

I recently painted this cabinet white and I am loving the change for spring! The artwork was done by my son and it brings me so much joy! I styled it with this $5 thrifted rattan elephant, some diy ombré books and a thrifted vase.

Our dining room is another room that’s pretty much “done” (with the exception of paint touch ups and a light fixture) and I’ve had lots of fun putting some spring touches in here!

I took down our heavy velvet curtains and am planning on putting up these opal house ones eventually. For now i am actually loving the openness of the bare windows.

I also framed some rifle paper co fabric from fat stack fabrics in these 50 cent thrifted frames for a nice spring floral pop! I brought home a fiddle leaf fig the other day that is definitely giving me the warm weather vibes!

Our sideboard got a little spring makeover with some spring florals and a styling update.

The mantle got some spring florals and a styling update as well.

I added some more of my sons artwork to the mantle as well because free labor 🤷🏻‍♀️ just kidding….kind of 😆

Our table recently got a fresh coat of paint and the captain chairs were reupholstered in this pretty pink coral fabric.

Having this room done motivates me to get going on the rest of the house! I can’t wait to see it all *hopefully* done this time next year!

Thank you so much for stopping by my spring home tour and be sure to check out Holly’s gorgeous spring decor tour!

One Week Challenge Week 4

I can’t believe week 4 of the one room challenge is here! I feel like I’m making progress but also kind of feel like this is going to end up being a one-week challenge for me LOL! At this point I’m still waiting on a rug and curtains but have nailed down a sideboard, chairs and most of my accessories.

If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen that I was debating between keeping this sideboard below or getting something a little bit more modern.

About a month ago I picked up a dresser set to refinish for someone. One of the dressers, the shorter one, ended up having a broken drawer that was beyond repair so I ended up using that as a sideboard because I absolutely love the shape of it and the hardware and I really didn’t want to see it to go to waste. It still looks great, it’s just not completely functional which is fine because I don’t need a ton of storage in my dining room. I’m not finished painting it yet but below is a picture of the tall dresser that matches it.

The artwork above it is actually framed fabric from a cute Etsy Shop named Donna’s lavender Nest. She has so many awesome fabric choices and is definitely a shop to check out. I really wanted something that was a kind of soft powdery blue to add some pattern to the wall because I really really wanted wallpaper initially but it just didn’t end up working out with our walls. I’ll be doing a whole blog post on the tutorial for these shortly.

One thing I did complete fully this week is getting my mantle styled. Yay! Everything on it is a collection of things that I love. From my crystal collection, petals from the flowers when me and my husband got married, some artwork from my son and of course I had to throw in some blue and white.

That light fixture will hopefully be getting switched before the challenge is up!

The mirror hung is also my vanity mirror from whenever I was a little girl

This week coming up I’m hoping to receive and hang my curtains, figure out a rug and finish up my dining room chairs.

For my chairs I will be keeping these cane back chairs that I’ve had for a while now. I had initially painted them white but I’m going to Gel Stain the caning a nice blonde wood color. I really need some contrast in this room so I think it will work out nicely.

Hope everyone else’s progress is going well!

One Room Challenge Week Two – Paint and Curtains

This week has been a somewhat slow one for my room but I am just about done with the paint and I chose curtains!

Curtains are my absolute favorite things to put up in a room. They add instant style and make a room feel put together. When hung correctly they can also make a room feel larger.

Last week I was still unsure of if I wanted to go with white or blush curtains and blush has won! I found some great ones on Amazon and cannot wait to get them! I’ll be telling you guys all about them on here next week.

I also found an amazing sideboard that isn’t campaign style but will definitely give the same effect! I’ll be sharing the makeover on it on here in the next few weeks. I know this picture is not the best but I promise there will be more (and better ones) soon!

I’ll be out thrifting this weekend for all things accesories and also a table because ours has sold.

Check back here next week for lots more progress and updates!

One Room Challenge – Dining Room Week One

I am so excited to be participating as a guest in this year’s fall 2018 one room challenge! If you’re not familiar with the one room challenge it’s basically when a ton of design bloggers come together to try and complete one room in their home in 6 weeks. There are 20 featured designers and many other bloggers who participate as guests. It is a great way to find inspiration!

I chose my dining room for the challenge because I’m going to be hosting Christmas this year and really want a beautiful space to have dinner in.

This room started out as a wallpapered mess. I actually didn’t hate the wallpaper that was in this room but it was not in the best shape and really just not my style. I decided to go all white with the paint and I’m so glad I did!

The photo below is from the Zillow listing.

The black fireplace got a white paint job as well!

I’m basically done painting the room and will post afters of the paint next week!

I really want this room to be a mix of mid century modern and traditional with lots of femininity! (Is that a word?!) Blush and light blue will be my main accent colors.

Image via Meredith Rodday Designs

This is actually an office space but the desk and chairs are exactly what I’m going for!

Image via

This blush and light almost periwinkle blue with the white walls is perfection. And that light fixture 😍

Image via

Yes this one is a bathroom but the blush curtains with all the white and gold accents plus the mid century lighting is exactly what I’m going for!

Vintage table diy –

I want to find a thrifted table and do a white lacquer paint job. I’m looking for something with super clean lines and not to much detail work on it.

Chairs –

Definitely going to do some kind of rattan chairs. I absolutely love rattan next to a high gloss white. It’s such a beautiful contrast.

Curtains –

As of right now I’m planning on blush velvet curtains. There’s a somewhat good chance I might change my mind to white velvet curtains but we shall see!

Sideboard –

I want to find a campaign dresser that will fit and work as a side board. I’ll be thrifting this as well so I’m open to a few different options.

Artwork –

I’ll be framing 3 panels of blue and white floral fabric to go above the sideboard.

I am so thrilled to be doing this challenge. I can’t wait to see everyones rooms and FINALLY get this room of my own done!

Where to Buy Beautiful and Unique Hardware

Putting new hardware on a piece of furniture, door, cabinets etc. in your home is one of the oldest tricks in the book to get an updated look! I absolutely love the feeling of screwing a beautiful piece of hardware into a freshly painted piece of furniture. It’s the little things right?

I always say the things you touch daily in your home should be high quality. Things like blankets, furniture, cooking utensils and yup! hardware too.

As most of you know, I refinish furniture, not just myself but also for resale as well. The pieces that sell the fastest are always the ones with beautiful hardware.

My absolute favorite place to buy hardware is actually from a shop named Shabby Restore. This shop has THE most beautiful and unique hardware and I am obsessed with it all!

Everything in the shop is so beautiful but I picked some favorites below!

The Myosotis White Knob

This is one I ALWAYS get compliments and quick sales with. It is so feminine and pretty and high quality. The knobs in the bowl here are meant to go on a dresser but I am seriously considering leaving them in this bowl as decor in my home 😂 they are just so lovely! Also they are incredibly easy to install which is a huge plus.

Big Red Daisy Flower Decorative Knob

If your knew to my blog you might not know this, but I am obsessed with florals! This beautiful knob is right up my ally!

Cylinder Glass Knob Tube

These are so beautiful and unique! I can’t wait to find the perfect project to use them on.

Love these back plates as well!

Crater Ceramic Knob

Love these for a boho look!

Blue Zinnia Knob

I absolutely love blue and white and it is perfect on this knob!

Above are just some of my favorites but if you are looking for something unique and gorgeous rather it be for yourself, or for furniture you are selling you need to check out the shop here! She’s also offering a 15% off coupon code! Just use “katiescoupon” at checkout!

Flamingo Beach Bach

Is the anything more fun than a bachelorette party? And who doesn’t love a good theme? Recently my sister-in-law got married and her maid of honor (aka my mother in law) agreed to let me plan the bachelorette. I get so into this kind of stuff so I was very excited! The bride loves the beach and Maine and my other sister in law suggested a drag show so we all ended up in Ogunquit/York Maine for an amazing show and flamingo themed beach bach! Below you will find everything you need for the perfect flamingo themed beach bach!

I didn’t go *crazy* on decorations because I knew we would only be at the airbnb for a short period of time between everything, but I still wanted her to walk into a super girly and fun decorated room.

CONFESSION : the lighting on the actual day of the party was awful! I ended up bringing most of the decor back home and taking more pictures for this post so that’s why some of the pictures look a little different!

If I remember correctly I’m pretty sure one of the first things the bride decided was her wedding hashtag. I knew I wanted to display their hashtag #slaybisquared somewhere.

When I saw these banners from Lantz and Lady I was in LOVE! She offers so many different font options which are fully customizable or she has some ready to go with really funny/cute sayings. The banner she sent was such high quality! You could actually see the glitter from far away and the letters flowed perfectly.

She also sent the MOST adorable straws and confetti that were perfect for our theme.

We used the confetti to hide the tape holding the banners and sprinkled the rest EVERYWHERE! We even put some on the floor leading to the bride’s room.

If you are planning an event you need to check out her shop! She was also kind enough to offer all my readers a discount code!

15% off any order over $15 from now until 10/31, just use ‘peoniesonpleasant’ as the code

I also grabbed the tassel banner and flamingo balloon on Amazon as well as the pink and gold balloons.

We put together some bachelorette survival kits for all the girls filled with goodies for the night!

When I decided to do the kits I knew I needed these labels from Label with Love. They were so perfect for the theme.

Not only were the labels perfect but the boxes she sent were great quality and the perfect size for the Inflatable Floating Flamingo Drink Holder 12 Pack Swimming Pool Float Coasters Coke Cup Holder for Beverage Cans Cups & Bottles – Fun Kid & Adult Pool Party“>flamingo drink floats. She has so many different labels in her shop. Definitely a must if you are planning any type of event.

There’s so many things you can put inside these! We went with a mini champagne bottle, hair ties, Inflatable Floating Flamingo Drink Holder 12 Pack Swimming Pool Float Coasters Coke Cup Holder for Beverage Cans Cups & Bottles – Fun Kid & Adult Pool Party“>flamingo float, scavenger hunt and pen and gold tattoos. I do wish I would have included Advil but thankfully my mother in law had some!

The tattoos are from Tats4now and were not only perfect for our theme and beautiful but also professionally printed and water proof. She has so many options in her shop I seriously don’t think there’s a theme she hasn’t thought about! Her designs are beautiful and are so vibrant on the skin. They do wash off if you need them too but if you want them to last they will! My sister in law still had hers on at the wedding a week later! She also sent a cute little heart shaped sponge to apply them with which was so cute and such a thoughtful touch!

The scavenger hunts were one of my favorite things to make. We all had fun trying to complete the tasks and lots of jokes and memories were made. Our group is naturally competitive so we didn’t need a big prize to get everyone to do it, but if your group needs a little push you could definitely offer a prize of some sort for whoever wins. Head to the bottom of this post for the free printable!

Of course the whole party is for the bride BUT we really wanted to shower the bride with some fun and cute stuff. My sister-in-law (the bride) is a very giving person. She is always doing for others and sometimes does not think about herself in the process. We really wanted to make her feel extra-special with some goodies and have a night all about her!

I got this bag off of Amazon and filled it with things she could use to do something she doesn’t do often enough – RELAX. All brides are so busy so I think this is a really good and inexpensive idea. We filled it with bath bombs, eye masks, facials, and a cute ring dish.

Her bed got “bride” and “it’s my flocking bachelorette” pillow cases from an AMAZING shop, Brand New Mrs. They have lots of different towels and pillowcases for all kinds of themes and parties!

The pillowcases were one of my absolute favorite parts for 2 reasons :

1. They were so soft and comfortable! Definitely high quality!

2. They were such an easy way to dress up her room. I originally thought about hanging a big bride balloon garland but who really wants to deal with that when your doing all this other setup? These were so easy and so cute! Plus she can actually get some use out of them!

Not only did they have the pillow cases but also a matching towel which was perfect for our theme! It was also very high quality and super cute! I LOVE the idea of getting the bride a towel because most brides will be honeymooning soon after their wedding!

Even if you aren’t having a bachelorette near the beach, I still think the towel is a must! The bride can use it on her honeymoon and laugh back at the night out!

Another goody I loved for the bride was this hat from an adorable shop filled with beautiful bridal essentials, Mod Party. It’s so beautiful and perfect for the bachelorette party and of course the honeymoon. It also served as cute decor.

The highlight of the night was definitely the drag show. If you live anywhere near Oqunquit Maine, you NEED to check out The Dueling Drag Divas show. These ladies are absolutely hilarious and seriously talented! I don’t think any of us stopped laughing through the entire show. We also havn’t stopped talking about Chi Chi and Joanna (the stars of the show) since the party! I absolutely cannot wait to go back to another show and have been pestering friends about what they want to do for their birthdays (ya know, just in case they want to attend a drag show with me?!) It is a MUST see, and of course Oguinquit is just an amazing place with ridiculously good food too! The proximity to the beach makes it a perfect beach bach spot!

I also ordered this Pin the Junk on the Hunk game which was a HIT! The bride loves Drake and it was the first thing the bride noticed! There are other celebrity options in her shop here.

All in all it was an amazing weekend! So many memories made and jokes that will live on!

Oh and don’t forget your free printable below!

Dinosaur Second Birthday

Over the winter my son had his second birthday. I wasn’t blogging then but I wanted to share this easy diy dinosaur birthday party for anyone looking for ideas! The theme was obviously dinosaurs and it was a great time! This is a great theme for any dinosaur loving kiddos and theres a ton of ideas on pinterest! this is what we did :

For the dessert table backdrop I used painters tape on a foam poster board to make the criss cross pattern. Once the tape was down I used different shades of blue and green acrylic paint and painted the separate sections. Once the paint was dry I just removed the tape and was done. The tape did kind of peel some of the poster but I just touched those spots up with paint.

Next I used plastic dinosaur toys and painted them with the same acrylic paint I used for the poster board. Once they were dry I made them little hats out of scrapbook paper and hot glued a pom pom on top. I love the way these came out! I actually ended up selling all of this stuff after his party to someones else for her sons party. My son loved the dinosaurs and her son did too! I strung the silver foil letters to say roar and just taped it to the back.

You can use any colors for this theme obviously. A pink and gold scheme would be so adorable for a girls party or any pink lovers out there! My son just so happened to like blue and green and I already had a lot of blue and green paint.

I got the cake at our local grocery store (Market Basket) and just asked them for a plain round white cake. I used the the toy dinosaur and a blue 2 for the cake toppers to dress it up a little. It was so simple.

I got the tassle streamers at target and dollar store. I definitely suggest checking out your local dolllar tree if you are looking for these.. They were alot less expensive then the target ones and had a good amount of color options.

My son LOVED tea at the time so we made some “tea-rex.”

We had these cardboard dinosaurs from target already and gave them a fresh coat of paint for the party. My son helped paint them and now they are decor in his bedroom. I thought it would be really fun as an activity for the kids to paint some too but they were a little pricey for the amount of kids we had coming.

The activities were fairly easy to put together. We did a dino dig and a hat decorating station.

We tried to make enough kinetic sand to fill this turtle for a dino dig. Big mistake. I’m pretty sure our new neighbors thought we were cooking a large batch of meth at 11 pm the night before. It was such a mess. I would suggest just using regular sand especially this time of year where it’s nice enough to be outside. We just hid the dinos and some dino skeletons in the sand and left out some bags with paint brushes for the kids to clean off their discoveries and keep in the bag. This doubled as favors. The kids really loved it.

I put some dino tattoos out too.

We also set up a station to decorate hats like paleontologists wear. The kids got so into it and it was a lot of fun. Even the adults made hats. Every age enjoyed it and my son still wears his hat. I got the hats here and just used random stickers we already had plus some from walmart and set out some paint and glitter glue too.

My son definitely enjoyed his party and I loved planning it! I can’t wait til next year!

Whimsical Boho Nursery

I absolutely love baby girls nurseries. Maybe it’s because I have a boy or maybe it’s because there’s just SO much good stuff out there. If I ever do have a girl you can consider her nursery planned. Actually you can just consider my next babies nursery planned regardless of gender lol!

I love a fun whimsical look so I wanted to put together a mood board of some products perfect for this look.

A neutral crib and glider are the backdrop to this look. I like to keep these neutral because they are the things you will have for a long time and will probably see decor changes. Especially the crib because they generally convert to beds.

The camel wall art is so beautiful and fun. It brings playfulness, color and even texture all in one print.

A morrocan pouf is the perfect place to put your feet up on those long nights feeding and of course a pink one is even better!

I have loved this purple fringe light fixture for so long and have always thought it’d be so perfect in a girls room/nursery.

The rug definitely makes a bold statement. The bright color is complimented by the vintage feel and it’s perfect for bringing boho vibes to this nursery.

The elephant basket is great for storing all those sweet baby blankets.

This is the perfect nursery for the fun boho baby and mama! See below to get this look in your baby’s nursery.

1. Crib 2. Camel print 3. Pouf 4. Elephant pillow 5. Fringe light fixture 6. Glider 7. Rug 8. Elephant basket 9. Gold cactus 10. Lamp

Do you guys like bright and fun nurseries or prefer something more neutral? I love both! Tell me in the comments below.
